Kauai Wedding / Poipu w/ Shawn & Catherine

Updated: Aug 4, 2018

I love my job. I say it all the time. I love that I use my degree and I love that I'm proving some of my art professors wrong by not starving at the moment. Art is all I've ever known and photography, professionally, is all I've ever done. Hawaii brings all sorts my way daily. I'm fortunate enough to share my art with people from all over the world and the furthest I have to drive is an hour. Shawn & Catherine are from the culturally rich metropolis of Montreal. With French as their first language and theatre, music, fashion and art in their backyards I was looking forward to hanging out with them for the day. About thirty people flew in to watch these two tie the knot in Poipu, Kauai. Hale Pohaku is a compound of small houses, a beautifully landscaped yard, a pool and where all the festivities would be taking place. It also boasts a quick walk to the beach for some of the best sunsets on island. It had been years since I took a French class and it might as well have never happened because je ne parle pas francais but that mattered not. Most everyone there spoke English as a second language when body language and smiling weren't cutting it. Apart from being an amazing couple with fun friends and a loving family there was a certain chicness about them that drew you in. Their magnetism was more than just the trendy clothes on their backs or the classic shoes on their feet. There was meaning and passion behind every word that came out of their mouths. They were in love and maybe French only added to the romanticism of the situation but in my mind they were reciting personal poetry as their vowels even if in reality they simply said "I Do".
